I love the asking for my rate and telling me they can get cheaper. Why ask me for my rate if it's going to get shot down? I really hesitate to state my rate. It's a catch-22 for me most of the time.

I would definitely not want to give out my phone number for the "can I call you" questions either.

"Well go on, I’m not holding you back. Go work with someone who’ll mangle your web site and stuff it with senseless articles of 99.99% keyword density."

I sense a little bitterness here... I love it. ;)

And for the record, that is one of my client pet peeves, too. However, a worse one (for me) is, "Can I call you? I would rather discuss this in person..."

No! You can't! For one thing, email ensures that I have a written record of payment terms, project description, etc. For another thing, the last thing I want is you having my number and calling me every time you get it into your head that we need to talk!!!

I've had clients like that in the past... Can you tell? ;)
